Insightful Transformation achieve targeted cost savings of £38.2m for UK construction company.

Kathryn Marshall, founder of Insightful Transformation has over 30 years’ experience on the strategic workforce changes required to deliver success. The Challenge

Kathryn was tasked with a major transformation of a UK construction company. The company had a £2.5bn revenue, 100,000 direct employees plus supply chain resources and offices and projects across the UK which were organised into six different operating companies and several brands. The company revenues were in decline with no strategic oversight of markets, customers and bidding performance.

Kathryn said: 

“The executive team had been with the business all their working lives and had grown with it. The culture was traditional - lacking in diversity, strategic thinking and change management expertise. There was also a notable absence of the voice of the customer in any conversations.”

Hired as the Chief People Officer and one of only two new executives on the executive team, Kathryn highlighted some of the challenges and opportunities the business faced. 

The Results

Following this, Insightful Transformation implemented a solution to:

  • Redesign the organisation into three new business streams aligned to customer markets and centralise the support functions.
  • Use additional expertise to deliver the targeted savings of £38.2m.
  • Develop a transformation programme structure and identify the leadership and resources 
  • required to deliver it.
  • Lead the people change aspects of the transformation.
  • Work closely with the unions and the communications team to build trust with employees and implement changes at an appropriate pace.
  • Identify executive leadership gaps and explain where roles were necessary.
